I started my affiliate marketing journey almost a decade ago for various reasons. Today I’m able to reap some excellent rewards, not just financially.
So in this post, I’ll be sharing 7 key benefits that really move the needle, compared to most other online income strategies.
Affiliate Marketing benefits
Look – this isn’t the only way to make money online. But it is, in my opinion, the best way to make money online.

Let’s look at some alternatives:
- Drop-shipping which is highly saturated and competitive
- Network marketing which is an industry in rapid decline
- ECommerce and Amazon FBA which takes lots of money
- Kindle Publishing………also saturated! (who reads anyway?)
One alternative not mentioned is writing blog content for clients. That has great upsides, with the potential to generate a 6 figure income for most people.
But for me, I like to scale a business with easy, paired with passive income potential. Affiliate marketing gives me that edge.
Let’s look at some of those benefits:
Can start with minimal capital
I started my business with investing into my education. I bought a course for $4,000 though that was split with a friend, so it was really $2,000.
After that, my actual business investment was $20. Yep – that was it! Affiliate marketing has the lowest barrier to entry of any online business type.
Potential to really scale up with a team
Scaling up with a team is entirely possible. In fact – it’s what I’m doing right now. I am building an offshore team to handle elements of my business.
If you have a team of 9 full time team members, and you’re personally working 40 hours per week, then you’re now working 400 hours per week. The ‘competition simply can’t catch you now.
Work and live anywhere in the world
The laptop lifestyle is the dream of many people. Through affiliate marketing, this is entirely possible. It’s very rare that I get phone calls of any type.
I still choose to work from home. It’s easier to focus and at this stage of my life, I’m just not into traveling….unless it’s first class. 😎
Can ‘switch off’ from the business
There is no need to constantly babysit your business, unless you’re generating 6 figures monthly. For 99% of people who generate just a 5 figure monthly income, switching off is entirely possible.
It’s wise to remember why you get into this business model. For me, it’s wealth creation and freedom. For some, it’s just the freedom. It’s easier to switch off if you’re just looking for freedom with a business.
Potential to sell
There are other business models such as Kindle Publishing and MLM schemes where it’s difficult to sell your business. Selling websites on marketplaces such as Flippa and Empire Flippers could lead to a big payday.
Business models need to provide both cashflow and capital growth. Affiliate marketing provides that possibility, and because of that, is attractive to investors.
Unlimited scope of products to promote
There are literally dozens of affiliate networks to choose from. If you’re not happy with Amazon Associates, then you’ll be impressed with the many alternatives possible.
My mentors, Ricky and Jim from Income School have mostly transitioned away from Amazon Associates anyway. This is primarily due to the YouTube gold rush where just about every channel is monetizing through Amazon nowadays.
Passive Income
When you’re starting, you won’t be earning passive income with affiliate marketing. Give it some time, and this will become more likely. Today most of my income is passive, because of work I did years ago.
Creating a passive income stream is often sold as a key benefit, but there is a reason why I’ve placed this last on the list. It’s the last reward you’ll ever find in this journey, and really only comes with sustained workflow in your affiliate marketing business.
In summary
Affiliate Marketing remains an excellent choice for a beginner who is looking to start their journey. It takes sustained work over several years to reach a full-time income, even you ever make it.
This isn’t easy. I’m not here to sell you the dream, without telling you the truth.
But there are rewards for those who are willing to put in the effort. Today, almost a decade into the journey, I can say my rewards only came with a lot of productivity.
